The ski resort of Beckenried (435 m) is on the south bank of Lake Lucerne at the foot of the Klewenalp with views of the popular and famous Rigi mountain on the other side of the lake. Near to Beckenried, on the panoramic terrace high above the lake, lie the villages of Emmetten and Seelisberg.
Beckenried ski resort - Klewenalp ski area
This ski resort consist of two areas: Klewenalp, which is accessible by aerial gondola from the village of Beckenried and Stockhütte , which is accessible by cable car from the village of Emmeten.
The valley stations in both villages are located about 20 minutes car drive from Lucerne, both in close proximity of the highway A2 Luzern-Chiasso.
There is a good long run starting with blue runs down from Twaregg, continuing after Stockhutte with a trail down to Emmetten. It is also possible to get down to Beckenried along a couple of trails, conditions permitting, after the lovely red run (avoid the blue one) from Chalen via Tannibuel - a vertical drop of over 1500m.
There is a lot of gentle off-piste if you turn left out of the modern Chalen chairlift.
The Panorama Schneebar above Klewenalp is the liveliest place on the mountain.
Beckenried village
Beckenried is located on the south shore of Lake Lucerne, at the foot of the Klewenalp. A local poet named Beckenried the prettiest village due to its wonderful location on the most beautiful lake. The village has an authentic feel but has nevertheless kept up with modern times - an example: Beckenried has the longest cableway in central Switzerland.
Among the cultural assets worth seeing in Beckenried are the church St. Heinrich from the 18th century, the chapel St. Anna and the pilgrimage chapel from the year 1700..Even a Lourdes grotto can be found in Beckenried. This is a replica of the Marian grotto of Lourdes.
