Gourette ski resort in the French Pyrenees has undergone significant modernization efforts for the 2024/2025 season. These upgrades aim to improve accessibility, efficiency, and the overall skiing experience. This new project, presented on September 5th, aims to modernize the infrastructure while improving accessibility, particularly in the Cotch sector, where a new gondola lift will replace the old chairlift for the 2024-2025 season.
The president of the Departmental Council, Jean-Jacques Lasserre, affirmed his commitment to the development of the mountain, despite questions related to global warming and the future of skiing. At the same time, elected officials point out that 300 people work in Gourette, with significant economic benefits for the valley.
Key developments include: new gondola lift, repositioned chairlift and new conveyor belt
To begin with, where the Cotch chairlift used to be, there is now a new 10-people gondola lift that will inherit the name of the lift it replaces. At the same time, the dismantled TSD6 has been placed where the Sarrière chairlift used to be, from which it also takes its name.
This rearrangement and change of lifts has a twofold objective. On the one hand, to free up the "iron" area, as there are fewer bollards. This reduces the visual impact on the landscape.
The new 10-people Cotch gondola lift will start directly on the slopes and will arrive near the Le Snow K'fé high-altitude restaurant at an altitude of 1,600m. The TSD6 Sarrière chairlift will also arrive nearby. In addition, the snow front of Gourette, close to the stores and the village, has a new covered ski run this season.
The slopes have also been softened to meet the needs of a wider audience, and many obsolete facilities have been dismantled.
In addition, the infrastructure is designed for all-season use: the Sarrière chairlift will be equipped with bike racks for the summer, and access to Lake Anglas is being studied for the future. These transformations aim to make Gourette an attractive mountain destination all year round, while anticipating future environmental challenges.
