Nestling in the heart of the unspoilt sector of Le Fornet, at the gateway to the Vanoise National Park, winter 2024/25 will see the Vallon de l'Iseran welcome a state-of-the-art gondola lift.
Val d’Isère is introducing its brand-new Vallon Gondola this winter, making it quicker than ever for skiers and riders to reach the high-altitude slopes of the Pisaillas Glacier, located at 3,185 meters. This new gondola will carry up to 10 passengers at a time, taking just 6.5 minutes to make the ascent.
This upgrade not only enhances convenience for skiers and riders but also demonstrates a commitment to environmental preservation. The new gondola lift will follow the existing route, ensuring the balance of the wild flora and fauna is not disturbed. To return part of the mountainside to its natural state, 32 pylons from the old gondola lift and the 2 skilifts will be removed.
The base station will move location slightly and while the top station will remain in the same spot, it will also be rebuilt.
The Pisaillas sector first became accessible in 1972 with the installation of the Col drag lift. In 1986, the Vallon TCD6 gondola was introduced, providing improved access to the high-altitude terrain. After nearly 40 years of service, the new gondola will replace it, offering panoramic views and a smoother, faster ride.
The cost of the project is a hefty €18 million, but the new lift will increase uphill capacity by 85% to 1350 people per hour.
The new lift will open in December 2024 in time for the 2024/25 winter.
