Sophisticated architecture, cabins brought to you by the cult design engineering firm Pininfarina - with the new Eisgrat cable car lift, the Stubai glacier gives the Kingdom of snow its final crowning glory. The tri-cable gondola is the longest of its type to be built in the Alps. This project at the Stubai Glacier has entered the history books as the largest single investment made by a ski resort.
The numbers alone are impressive: the installation will be 4.7km in length, with approx. 2,400m to the middle station, and a further 2,300m to the mountain station. This clearly earns it the title of the “Longest tri-cable gondola in the Alps”. It is not just its length which grabs attention, but also its elegance and efficiency. The 48 ultra modern cabins (created by the Italian design gurus from Pininfarina) are capable of transporting 3,000 people per hour instead of the previous 1,500. A transport capacity which elevates guests to the ski resort directly, and without any waiting time. The journey from the valley (1,697m above see level) to the mountain (2,900m), which passes seven supporting pillars and 1,200m in altitude, takes roughly 11 minutes at an approximate speed of 25 km/hr. €60.6 million is the amount that those in charge have committed to this milestone in mountain lift history. Never before has an Austrian cable car company invested so much in lift installation in one go. The new 3S Eisgrat cable car lift by LEITNER ropeways is planned to be put into operation on 29th October 2016.
Design & comfort in the gondolas
Comfort and style play a key role in all areas. Sophisticated quality was even a key consideration when designing the gondolas, each with 24 seats and eight standing spaces. It all originates from the Italian design studio Pininfarina, which takes distinguished responsibility for numerous classic cars by Ferrari, Maserati or Alfa Romeo, along with other legendary brands. The ski guests can enjoy the ascent while sat on comfortable, real leather seats and absorbing the view through panoramic windows, the size of which also sets a new benchmark. Free Wi-Fi in the cabins is - like in all restaurants at the Stubai Glacier - simply a matter of course. The great news for ski fans in view of the increased cabin capacity (32 instead of 6 people) is: they get on at the middle station before setting off on the popular ski runs of Falwesuna and Silberschneid.
