Åre ski resort
The ski resort has three distinct areas – Åre By which is the largest and central one, Duved on the west and Björnen on the east.
Åre By is linked to Björnen via a series of slopes and t-bar lifts. There is also a regular free bus service that runs between the 2 centres. Björnen has an extensive beginner area making it perfect for families and those who are looking for a good quiet space in which to improve their skills to an intermediate level. Rodkullen is located on the opposite side of Areskutan to Bjornen and can be accessed either via the VM8 chair, from the top of Are By or on the free ski bus from the Kabinbanan at the base of Are By. Rodkullen is a great area to learn to ski or snowboard that it suited to both adults and children. There is also access to a professional snow park in Rodkullen with a full size half pipe.
The Duved/Tegefjäll area also offers a slightly slower pace. In Duved and Tegefjäll most slopes are reds or blues. Two chairlifts take you to the top and there are T-bar lifts between Duved and Tegefjäll. Large parts of the ski area are below the tree line, which makes skiing and boarding pleasant even in windy conditions or poor visibility. Many of the slopes are wide and well suited to large carving turns. When it snows the area offers really good skiing through the trees.
The skiing around Åre village is world famous, with slopes instantly recognisable from major World Cup competitions. In Central Åre there are mainly red intermediate pistes, and the area served by Fjällgårdsexpressen and Tottliften leading back to the Fjällgården Hotel are all nice red runs for cruising as they are long. The steeper black runs can be found here as well as the half pipe and freestyle park. The slopes in the VM8 area are all very well floodlit and are used for night skiing during the peak season.
Most famous off-piste track is located on the eastern side of Åreskutan. It offers large, open areas on sometimes steep terrain that calls for speed and adventure.
There are various cafes and bars located around the center of the resort.
Popular spots on the mountain include the newly opened schnitzel restaurant Bibbos at the site of the old Platåkåtan eatery in the Sadel area. Alternatively, the traditional mountain restaurant Buustamon in the Rödkulle area has a lovely timber structure and distillery in the basement. The classic Hummelstugan offers the best view in the country on good days, with food and ambiance to match.Otherwise the bar area in Svartberget is good for drinks and lounging around. One of the biggest venues is Timmerstugan, where you can grab a bite to eat on the slopes and watch bands and DJs perform on the outdoor terrace.

There are those who say that a day of skiing without après-ski simply isn’t skiing. Whether that’s true or not is up to you. Åre’s largest nightclub, Bygget, has two floors with seven bars and four different lively dance floors for those who don’t feel the need to be first at the lift in the morning. The building also hosts regular gigs with famous artists during high season. Mister French is also located on the square and hosts the Club Chambre nightclub until the small hours.
