Madonna di Campiglio, a prestigious ski resort and home of important competitions and events, is connected to Folgarida-Marilleva and Pinzolo by the most state-of-the-art lift installations modern technology has to offer.
Madonna di Campiglio ski resort
The first area, Cinque Laghi, is reached by a five-minute cable-car ride from the centre of the village. It’s most memorable for the 3-Tre piste, which starts red, but turns a wicked shade of black as it becomes the notorious Canalone Miramonti (maximum slope gradient 60%), which used to be a World Cup slalom course. The terrain is best suited to more adventurous skiers however there are some small blues slopes for nervous intermediates to have a go on, but from the Madonna side they can only be accessed by skiing red runs first.
Next up is Pradalago (above) which is the largest of the three sectors, and offers consistently stunning views across to the western wall of the Brenta Dolomites. The Amazzonia black, from here back to the resort is a stunner, and the blue Pradalago Facile run is a lot of fun too. Here beginners and tentative intermediates will be more at home on the long blue runs especially lower down the mountain, that lead to the lifts on the other side of the village which access the Groste area.
Back up on Pradalago the slopes of Madonna di Campiglio’s final area Monte Vigo can be reached. This is a large skiable area with slopes running down to the two nearby villages of Folgarida and Marilleva. The slopes in this area tend to be a bit more demanding, however those skiers looking to rack up the mileage should definitely pay them a visit.
The third and final area is Monte Spinale and Groste (ski areas connected to only one four-person chairlift 41 Boch), on the opposite side of the valley and reached by a two-stage gondola from the east side of town. Passo Groste at 2444m this is the high point of the ski area.
Beginners and timid intermediates will feel equally at home at Groste, however at Monte Spinale there is some decent expert terrain with a long black heading all the way back down to the village. Up here you’ll find the terrain park, as well as the extraordinary Spinale Direttissima black (maximum slope gradient 70%), beneath the gondola, which is really just a red until you get to an insanely steep bit at the end called the Schumacher Streif, in honour of Ferrari’s famous F1 driver. At the bottom the Spinale gondola whisks you back up to Monte Spinale and several other challenging red and black runs.
Madonna for freeriders: There are very few off-piste areas, most of which are between trees and are recommended only with a local guide and good riders. Some of the natural backcountry skiing demands a bit of walking and is quite tricky.
Ursus Snowpark
Ursus Snowpark: one of the best snow park in the Italian Alps.
Ursus Snowpark is located in the highest part of Grostè area in Madonna di Campiglio, at the arrival of Grostè’s gondola (45/46) at 2500 meters of altitude. The snowpark is served by six seats chairlift Grostè Express (47).
Top area. This area is perfect for those who approach for the first time the snowpark and for who want to have fun. There are easy features “S” and intermediate “M”: 4 jumps and different box and rai likedancefloor, flatbox, rainbow, fat tube rail, tank, mailbox; so a nice set up, an area that alone can be considered a complete small snowpark.
Bottom area. This bigger area has obstacles for every level, from beginner to expert. Two main line with 3 jumps each, one medium and a more difficult line for experts and pro. One easy line with small jumps and box and different combination of jib features like mailbox, tank rail, fat tube rail.
Madonna di Campiglio village
Madonna di Campiglio ski resort with about 1000 inhabitants, is among the most renowned of all Trentino. It is located at an elevation of 1,550 metres asl.
The village itself is quite charming with a small pedestrian area in the middle of the town and many shops of high-end Italian fashion. The town is a great ski resort for foodies because there are many good restaurants around, and 3 of them are even Michelin starred restaurants.
Except for some special weeks, the town is a bit sleepy, and usually, the party lovers around will end up at Piano 54.
