Söll is located in the Wilder Kaiser Alps region, within the province of Tyrol in northwest Austria. Söll ski resort is without a doubt one of the most busy and buzzing ski resorts in the SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser-Brixental area.
Söll ski resort - WilderKaiser ski area
With around 280 km of piste and 90 different lifts, 70 huts..., the SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser-Brixental is one of the largest interconnected (nine different villages) ski networks in the whole of Austria.
The skiing in Söll takes place on the opposite side of the valley road and a ski piste runs right back to the centre of Söll. A gondola transports skiers from Söll up to Hochsöll. From there, they can take another lift all the way up to the highest point in the SkiWelt, the peak of the Hohe Salve mountain. Up here at 1,829 metres above sea level there are breathtaking views of the Kitzbühel Alps, the Wilder Kaiser Mountains and the Hohe Tauern Mountains.
Söll offers plenty of challenges for more advanced skiers. From the summit of the Hohe Salve, the “Black Eagle” run is breathtakingly steep and descends on the north side towards Hochsöll. A treat for very good skiers – inexperienced winter sports enthusiasts are strongly discouraged from embarking on this adventure. The south-facing slope towards Brixen is also steep and demanding, but grippier on the sunny side and easier to navigate. Söll provides the ideal slopes for anyone who enjoys carving long turns in the snow. Take the exciting undulating slopes of the Hexen 6er lift, for example, or the descents from the Kraftalm – or even the sweeping slopes along the Keat or Siller lifts.
Children, beginners and those getting back into snowsports after a while away will find everything they need in Söll with its sports shop, equipment hire shop and easy practice area next to the bottom of the cable cars. There is also a ski school nearby with professional instructors. The Kinderland Kornkammer offers childcare and the Hexenkinderland at the mid-way station of the cable car has two adventure trails for children with plenty of energy left to burn.
And those who like to go off-piste will be excited by the "Black Pipe": a ski route from the Hohe Salve to Hochsöll – more than 80% incline, great slopes.
Söll ski resort is the number 1 destination in Austria when it comes to night skiing. With 11 kilometres of illuminated ski runs (Wednesday to Saturday each week), SkiWelt Söll is Austria’s largest night skiing resort!
Söll apres ski
Rustic lodges and mountain snack stations, as well as bars and cafés invite you to discover their diverse après ski opportunities, which have made Söll a favourite winter sports resort. The Moonlight Bar at the bottom of the valley, Hexenkessel at the base of the gondola and the Gasthof Stöcklalm at the mid-station are firm favourites for après. For something more relaxed, head to the Rossini Cafe and Bella Vita.
When the après ski bars close their doors, the party continues through the night in the disco "Whiskey-Mühle".
Söll village
Söll is a modern farming village at 703m above sea level and almost 3700 inhabitants, with rural farmers and urban infrastructure.
As is common of the Austrian mountain villages, the centre of Söll is found around the church. Söll is low-rise and traditional and much of the village is given over to tourism. The main road that runs through the valley and connects the ski holiday resorts of the Ski Welt by-passes Söll so the traffic within Söll is almost all local traffic. There is an attractive central street through Söll that hosts the Christmas markets prior to Christmas and is the focal point of most of the activity in Söll.
Many of the restaurants in Söll are in the hotels. A very popular dining choice is Auf da Muhle in the Schindlhaus building. Also in the Schindlhaus is the Dorfstub'n, which has a good range of cuisine in a traditional atmosphere. The Postwirt keeps up its good name for Austrian and international dishes, with a fine wine cellar, and Soller Stube is a traditional Tirolean restaurant.
Bella Vita is another magnificent restaurant, serving up Italian, Asian and Austrian dishes with friendly customer service.
