The ski season has not finished yet, but in San Martino di Castrozza we are already thinking about the next one. A few days ago, the news that the Valcigolera chairlift will be replaced with a brand new ten-seater gondola, that will be inaugurated at the beginning of the winter season 2024-2025, has been confirmed.
The new gondola, produced by Leitner, will have a capacity of up to 1500 passengers per hour. It will allow skiers to move faster between the Ces and the Tognola area, to reach the highest point of the ski area, the Cima Tognola peak (2383m), quickly and to avoid the Cristiania red slope if they don’t feel like facing it and they prefer to come back to the Malga Valcigolera by lift.
It will take just 3.30 minutes (now it takes more than 10) to go from the Malga Valcigolera to the Cima Tognola peak (465m difference in altitude). This modern lift grants a reduced energy use and it is powered by renewable energy, like all the lifts working in the ski area San Martino di Castrozza-Passo Rolle.
The lift connection between Tognola and Ces has been recently renovated also in the Tognola side, where two new chairlifts (Cigolera and Cima Tognola) have been inaugurated in the last years. That’s why skiing down the 45 km of slopes of San Martino di Castrozza moving from one area to the other will be more fun than ever!
The beginning of the works is scheduled for spring 2024. Meanwhile, the preparatory works for the lift connection between San Martino di Castrozza and Passo Rolle have started and we are now waiting for the authorization of the final project.
