Kitzbühel ski resort is working on improving its infrastructure to make skiing more sustainable, like other resorts. This year, two brand new, modern 6-seater chairlifts, the 6SB Guaxjoch and 6SB Trattenbach, will replace older lifts in the KitzSki area.
As part of a grand opening ceremony on December 16th, the two new 6-seater chairlifts from Bergbahn AG Kitzbühel started the 2023/24 winter season on time. Within just six months, KitzSki replaced the Trattenbach triple chairlift and the Gauxjoch drag lift from the 1980s with two chairlifts that represent the most modern and sustainable cable car technology in the world. “The two new lifts combine maximum comfort, first-class quality and our claim to implement sustainable solutions. We have invested 23 million euros and are thus improving the central connection between the core ski area of Kitzbühel, Kirchberg and Pengelstein and the Resterhöhe,” says CEO Mag. Anton Bodner.
The two new 6-seater chairlifts, CD6C Gauxjoch and CD6C Trattenbach, in Kitzbühel embody the latest in sustainability. Leitner has integrated its newest technologies for minimum energy consumption and maximum operational efficiency. In addition to the Leitner DirectDrive, the Leitner EcoDrive, that may save up to 20 percent with its automatic adaptive speed control and the Intelligent Heat Detector (IHD) for the chairs are part of the sustainable equipment. The installations are further enhanced by photovoltaic systems installed on the station buildings. Heatable Premium Chairs EVO and weather protection hoods ensure comfortable and pleasant transport regardless of weather conditions.
The 6SB Gauxjoch chairlift will reduce skiers' travel time by half. It will only take 3 minutes and 35 seconds to go from the valley to the mountain stations. The hourly capacity will increase from 1,440 to 2,400 people. The slower speed of the station will make it easier for kids and beginners to use.
The 6SB Trattenbach shortens travel time between the Trattenbach Valley and Mountain stations. It now takes less than 3 minutes instead of over 6 minutes. It too can transport more people than the old lift – 2,400 per hour compared to 1,970. And, like the 6SB Gauxjoch, the slower station speeds will also make this lift easier to use for children and less experienced skiers.
