Champagny is a ski resort in the French Alps, located in the Tarentaise Valley, within the Savoie region of France. It is part of the larger La Plagne ski area, which is also integrated into the Paradiski ski area, linking La Plagne, Les Arcs, and Peisey-Vallandry.
Champagny ski resort - Paradiski ski area
The traditional resort of Champagny-en-Vanoise has been connected to the La Plagne ski area since the early 1970s. It now also provides fast access to Les Arcs via the Vanoise Express, a double-decker cable car that links the two areas. Together, La Plagne, Peisey-Vallandry, and Les Arcs form a vast interconnected ski region.
The Rossa high-speed detachable 6-person chairlift in Champagny-en-Vanoise is one of the most important lifts in the area, serving as a key access point to the higher-altitude slopes in the Champagny sector of La Plagne.
At the top of Champagny, the chairlifts serve several green and blue runs, ideal for beginners. Experienced skiers can reach the village by the red piste of Le Bois, which runs through the forest, or you can try the mythical Mont de la Guerre piste, which attracts many skiers.
The Verdons area has several blue runs that are perfect for beginners moving up from green pistes. These runs are wide and forgiving, allowing for smooth, steady skiing and plenty of space to practice turns and speed control. The Bozelet slope, located near the top of the gondola, is a great introductory blue run for those transitioning from green slopes. It’s a wide, open piste with a manageable gradient, giving beginners the chance to experience a more advanced slope without steep or difficult sections.
Mont de la Guerre (Red) - One of the most popular and longest red runs in the Champagny area, the Mont de la Guerre offers a fantastic descent that starts from Roche de Mio (2,700 meters) and takes you down to the Champagny sector at 1,250 meters. This slope offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains and takes you through a mix of open high-altitude terrain and more enclosed sections near the bottom, and it's a great way to finish your day as it leads back down toward the resort.
Les Bois is well-suited for intermediate skiers who are comfortable on red runs. It’s an enjoyable piste with enough challenge to keep it interesting but without the intensity of a black run. The trees provide some natural protection from wind and exposure, which can make for a more pleasant skiing experience during colder or windy days. The Les Bois piste can be accessed from the top of the Verdons or Rossa chairlifts in the Champagny sector. It provides a direct route back down toward the village, making it a popular end-of-day run.
Les Bosses - this piste is best suited for expert skiers who are comfortable on steep, mogul-filled terrain. The name "Les Bosses" translates to "The Bumps," which is a fitting description, as this slope is famous for its moguls.
