Chatel ski resort - Portes du Soleil ski area
The Châtel ski area is part of the larger Portes du Soleil ski domain, one of the largest ski areas in the world, spanning both France and Switzerland. The Portes du Soleil area boasts over 600 km of interconnected ski slopes across 12 resorts, including Morzine, Les Gets, Avoriaz, and Champéry.
The Espace Liberté ski area extends across Châtel, La Chapelle d'Abondance, the Swiss resort of Torgon and the Corbeau sector of the Swiss resort of Morgins. It offers: 75 ski slopes and 58 ski lifts.
The Châtel ski area extends across Super-Châtel / Barbossine and Linga / Pre la Joux/ Plaine Dranse sectors linked together with Portes du Soleil and Gabelou chairlifts. It offers 39 ski lifts and 43 ski slopes.
There are five different lift stations in Châtel to access the ski area, so it’s very easy to get on the slopes and start exploring the 12 different resorts that make up the Portes du Soleil. The area offers unrivalled discovery skiing; and all the resorts are very well linked so you can ski in France one day and Switzerland the next, Morzine in the morning, and Châtel in the afternoon.
The Super-Châtel sector is accessible either by the Super-Châtel gondola located in the village center or by the Petit Châtel and Barbossine chairlifts. Ideal for beginners with its numerous green and blue slopes, this area includes a snowpark, an avalanche transceiver park, a speed run, and the themed mountain fauna and flora trail "Green - Flocon vert" on the Chermillon slope.
The Super Châtel sector is directly connected to the Linga sector through the inter-domain connection at Vonnes via the Portes du Soleil and Gabelou chairlifts.
This sector is directly connected to the Swiss resorts of Morgins (via the Chalet Neuf drag lifts) and Torgon (via the Tour de Don drag lift). From Torgon, it is possible to reach the ski area of La Chapelle d'Abondance.
The Linga and Pre La Joux ski areas are great for advanced skiers because they are pretty steep, however on the Châtel doorstep the Super Châtel ski area is amazing on a powder day; because it’s predominantly a beginner area the off-piste stays relatively untouched. This area also links directly with the Torgon free ride in Switzerland which is a controlled off-piste zone allowing for safe backcountry style skiing.

Châtel is a tree-lined resort, which creates a very picturesque environment that can also protect skiers from the elements such as wind and cold. This makes it an ideal resort for beginner skiers or young children, as it’s hard enough to learn to ski without worrying about the altitude or exposure of a slope.
Chatel village
Châtel retains its traditional Alpine charm, with wooden chalets and cozy accommodations. It is less commercialized compared to other ski resorts, giving visitors a more intimate and authentic experience.
