The ski resort Corvara (Alta Badia ski area) in the Italian Alps is located in south-east South Tyrol, in the Dolomites mountains, between 1,300 and 2,778 metres above sea level.
Corvara ski area
Corvara is part of the Alta Badia ski area with access to 130km of downhill skiing, with 103 marked pistes, served by a total of 52 ski lifts (Corvara ski resort itself offers 19 lifts, 38 local pistes and a total ski pist length of 44 kilometers). The ski area Alta Badia is centrally in the Dolomiti Superski skiing region, the largest ski area in the Alps.
Alta Badia skiing
A novice or intermediate will love the forgiving slopes covered by the Alta Badia Skipass where you can potter between the Colfosco, San Cassiano, La Villa and Badia areas. The Borest chairlift links the village with Colfosco (you can explore the Edelweiss valley over here) and both give good access to the Sella Ronda route.
On the high plateau Piz Sorega, Piz La Villa, Pralongià and Cherz you will find blue and easily manageable red pistes, such as e.g. the "Col Alto", "Arlara" and "Boè", which also lead down to Corvara.
The most demanding slopes include the famous Gran Risa in La Villa - the downhill run (2.5 km long) of the Ski World Cup elite -, the black slope Vallon-Boè in Corvara and panoramic downhill run from Mt. Lagazuoi.
The village is part of the famous Sella Ronda circuit with connections to the rest of Alta Badia and the Marmolada Glacier. With so much skiing at your fingertips, it’s difficult to know where to start - but we’d recommend warming up for a day or two on the gentle pistes that lie between Corvara and San Cassiano, and only then moving onto the celebrated Sella Ronda circuit. This girdles the fortress-like Sella massif with 20 lifts and 25km of pistes, and is not difficult. The pistes are mostly blues and easy reds, and although you’ll find the odd challenging pitch, anyone who can ski parallel can manage it. (The anti-clockwise circuit is marginally easier).
Snow Park Alta Badia
On the slope Ciampai there was born one of the best equipped Snowpark in Italy and Europe. 14 Boxes, 10 Rails, 17 Kickers satisfy even the most demanding freestylers.
The snow park, which is free of charge, is divided into beginner, medium and advanced area with different types of obstacles. The park is prepared every day by professional "shapers," who maintain the equipments and the obstacles of snow always ready.
The fastest way to reach the park is from San Cassiano by taking the cable car Piz Sorega, go down to the 6 place chair lift Ciampai, which leads directly to the departure of the Movimënt Snowpark Alta Badia.
Corvara village
Corvara is the largest village in the Alta Badia region, with some extremely high quality hotels and apartments. Five of them – La Perla, Berghotel Ladinia, Posta Zirm, Hotel Arlara, and Hotel Costes - are ski-in ski-out.
Corvara is the biggest and liveliest of the six Alta Badia resorts, a rather strung-out village with pockets of bars, shops and restaurants. At weekends (and also on Thursdays at L’Murin), Grillkeller Adler can be lively. The piano bars in Hotel Sassongher, La Perla, and Table are more sophisticated.
