Fiss in the Upper Inn Valley is one of the three villages which makes up the Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis ski resort. This wintersports arena with pistes between 1,200 and 2,820 metres above sea level is widely considered the most family-friendly resort in Tirol.
It has almost 70 lifts and cable cars connecting the huge network of pistes catering for all abilities, from easy blue runs in Ladis to challenging black runs at the Masnerkopf with its fantastic panoramic views. The Möseralmbahn, the Schönjochbahn, the Waldbahn and the Sonnenbahn are the four cable cars taking skiers and snowboarders from the centre of Fiss out to the rest of the resort.
Families and beginners will find plenty of gentle terrain in Ladis, though there are also easy pistes at 2,770m on the Pezid mountain. However, those who have more experience on the slopes will also find the most difficult black run in the whole resort in Fiss: the Direttissima from the Zwölferkopf towards the mid-way station of the Schönjochbahn cable car.
The resort focuses in particular on the needs of families with children, so it is little wonder that it has a huge children's area, known as Bertas Kinderland, near the mid-way station of the Sonnenbahn cable car. Here there are no fewer than twelve conveyor belt lifts as well as an easy race course, a snowtubing run, a family restaurant and, of course, Bertas Kids Funpark with rollers, jumps and a few easy obstacles for budding freestylers. The Fisser Höhlenwelt by the Möseralmabfahrt is an adventure trail where parents and children can ski through a haunted forest with bears, apes, icicles and even a burning barn.
For shredders and freestylers there are three funparks in the resort, while speed freaks can test their speed and record themselves on a special video piste on the north-facing side of the resort. There is also good off-piste freeriding near the marked slopes. In the resort are around 25 cosy huts, three child-friendly restaurants and several piste-side bars.
