The snow space Flachau ski area, often internationally recognised, is known for wide, superbly groomed pistes, guaranteed snow and easy accessibility. The village of Flachau, home of the legendary ski champ Herman Mayer, seats at the altitude of 880 meters.
With its 3 ski areas, Snow Space Salzburg Flachau - Wagrain - St. Johann, Shuttleberg Flachauwinkl - Kleinarl and Skiparadies Zauchensee - Flachauwinkl, Flachau is the beating heart of Ski amadé: 210 kilometres of pistes and 70 ski lifts are almost continuously accessible.
Flachau skiing
More than 210 kilometers of perfectly groomed slopes await skiers in the Snow Space Salzburg ski area. The probably most famous slope in Flachau is the Hermann Maier World Cup course. For several reasons: first, the Audi FIS Ski World Cup Ladies Night Slalom takes place there, which attracts thousands of fans from all over the world every year.
The stretched out ski resort of Flachau actually consists of three parts with lifts leading to the ski area. Because there is not a real resort center, Flachau does lack a little atmosphere but the three parts all have something to offer and you immediately feel at home here.
The Flachau Ski Area is set on an open mountainside and therefore has many beautiful, wide slopes. A large part of the area lies in the woods, meaning you can enjoy enchanting descents on tree-lined slopes. On days with bad weather conditions which reduce visibility, skiing between trees will help you feel safer as you have land marks on each side of the pistes. Apart from the steep Hermann Maier World Cup slope, you will never really come across difficult pistes in Flachau which makes this ski area ideal for intermediate skiers and families with young children who enjoy skiing together.
On the other side of the mountain from Flachau, there are steeper slopes that take you towards Wagrain. Here you can also take the G-Link gondola lift that connects to the ski resort of St Johann and Alpendorf. There are some lovely, long slopes in this direction too. From Flachau, you can also choose the slopes of Flachauwinkel.
Flachau slopes are not that great for freeriding because of dense woods. The best spots are situated above the tree line around the Top Liner lift and pistes number 24 and 25. There is also a designated slope for off piste skiing in Flachauwinkl, it begins at the top of lift number 25, close to the snow park.
Flachau snowpark
In Shuttleberg, the mountain, between Flachauwinkl and Kleinarl, you can find one of the best and unique snow parks in Europe, Absolut Snow Park.
The park extends over 1.5 km and is divided into seven sections: Kicker Line, Rail Yard, Beginner/Medium Line, Rail/Halfpipe Line, Jib Park, Cross Run and The Stash. The more than 100 obstacles are maintained daily by a professional shape crew to create the perfect conditions.
Flachau village
Flachau is a village of approx 2600 population, its part of the district of Pongau, which is within the region of Salzburgerland. The village is really picturesque with beautifully kept houses, buildings and church, which could be straight out of a picture postcard.
There’s a Raiffeisen bank branch with ATM in the village centre.
There’s a large Tourist & Information Centre also in the village centre, which has lots of information in places to visit, where to eat, equipment rental, walking and cycling routes, etc.
