Formigal, officially Aramón Formigal, is a ski resort in the Aragon Pyrenees of northeastern Spain, near the town of Sallent de Gallego in the upper Tena Valley in the province of Huesca.
Formigal is one of Spain three largest ski areas with slopes spread over four valleys in fact, it claims to be the country largest, although its competitors may disagree. The Formigal ski area itself is situated between 1510 meters and 2250 meters of altitude.
Unusually, the resort itself is not located centrally, but instead is within the most westerly of the valleys. This means skiers move progressively further away from the resort and 6km east towards the French border as they travel further through the ski area. Slopes here are largely north facing, making snow cover more reliable than some neighbouring resorts.
Formigal has a great ski area with slopes of different levels for all tastes: Cantals for beginners, Izas and Sarrios for medium skiers and Tres Hombres for advanced skiers. We find areas of controlled speed (areas for children and especially beginners) and a video-slalom trail.
In the rental areas of the lower part of the gondolas (Panticosa sector) and in Sextas, Anayet and Portalet (Formigal sector) you have rental of ski, snowboard, snowblade equipment, being able to choose between the progress and high range, depending on your needs. You also have Freestyle, bottom and racket equipment, but only in the Formigal sector.
Skiing in Aramon Formigal-Panticosa will be a real pleasure for carving fans, since we will not find any trees and the slopes are more like tremendous snow highways that go through and descend the valleys of the domain, ideal for making wide turns safely. Progressively, the Formigal ski resort is developing its most supportive face, with projects that benefit groups with fewer resources.
