Kappl ski resort
Kappl is known for catering to all skill levels, making it an excellent choice for mixed-ability groups. Beginners and families will find Kappl’s slopes highly welcoming. The Sunny Mountain Adventure Park, located near the top of the Diasbahn cable car, offers gentle blue slopes perfect for those just starting out. The Dias area, in particular, is great for beginners, with easy access to the rest of the ski area as they progress.
The Talabfahrt run is one of the most enjoyable in Kappl, providing a scenic and varied descent from the upper mountain to the base of the resort. It’s ideal for intermediate skiers seeking a long, uninterrupted run with a mix of terrain. The run typically begins near the Alblittbahn or Diasbahn lifts and winds all the way down to the village at 1,180 meters.
Intermediate Slopes - Alblittkopf and Dias Areas:The runs here, such as Red 1, Red 7, and the Lattenabfahrt (Red 2), offer long descents with scenic views and varied terrain, perfect for confident intermediates. The Bergwiesenabfahrt features a mix of moderately steep sections and gentler, rolling terrain. It’s wide in most areas, allowing intermediate skiers enough room to practice carving and pick up speed in controlled stretches.
While Kappl is more focused on intermediates, there are some thrilling black runs, such as Black 10 and Black 8, that challenge expert skiers. The Kanonenrohrabfahrt is one of Kappl's most difficult runs, classified as a black slope (Black 9), making it ideal for advanced skiers. The steep, winding descent gives the run its name, "Kanonenrohr" (meaning "Cannon Barrel"). The run begins near the Alblittbahn II area at the top of Kappl’s ski domain, providing higher altitude and reliable snow conditions.
Popular Freeride Routes: Dias Peak: One of the most popular areas for off-piste skiing in Kappl. The descent from the Diasbahn lift offers easy access to freeride terrain with multiple routes down. Alblittkopf Area: For more experienced skiers, the off-piste runs near Alblittkopf (at 2,690 meters) provide longer descents and steeper pitches, with fantastic powder conditions after fresh snowfall.
The best place for a relaxing drink with fabulous views is the Sunny Mountain Panoramabar at 2,100m. Try typical Tyrolean dishes like Kasnockn, Speckknödel or Kaiserschmarrn in one of the many mountain cabins and restaurants you can choose from. Apres ski wise, there are a few bars to take a well-earned beer en-route to the bottom of the lifts. The Schafstall is located towards the bottom of run 4, not long after you go under the tunnel, it is right on the edge of the piste so you can’t miss it. At the base head to the Schupfa in Hotel Auhof.
