Meran (Merano 2000) is a ski resort located in the South Tyrol region of northern Italy. Situated on the high plateau above the spa town of Merano, this ski area offers a total of 40 kilometres of ski runs and South Tyrol’s first mountain coaster, which is open all year round.
Merano 2000 ski area
The ski area is divided into a "front" and a "back" part. The former, with the exception of the steep slope, offers rather easy slopes and can also be reached by the cable car to Falzeben. The "back" part is accessed by a chairlift, the slopes there make every skier's heart beat faster:
The Oswald slope attracts with 2 downhill variants, both are not very steep, but very wide and therefore brilliant for wide, fast carving turns. The Oswald II slope is one of the notable red runs at Meran 2000, designed for intermediate skiers.
The Kesselberg slope also has 2 downhill runs (black nr.8 and blue nr.6 & 7), from the Kesselberg hut you have a view over the Sarntal and its Alps. The Kesselberg (nr.8) slope is the most challenging run at Meran 2000, catering to advanced skiers. It’s a black slope known for its steeper gradient and technical requirements.
Freeride possibilities can be found next to all slopes in the "back" part of the ski area if the snow situation allows it. The most beautiful (and also most dangerous) variant is to the left of the Kesselberg lift.
Children will find a ski kindergarten and a specialized children's ski school at Meran 2000, complete with a baby lift for learning and practicing with ski instructors. "Lucki's Kinderland," located at the mountain station, adds to the family-friendly atmosphere of this resort. Young skiers can enjoy three magic carpets and a variety of wide, gentle slopes to practice their first skills, while parents relax on the terrace of the panorama bistro, watching from a safe distance.
The ski resort of Meran 2000 also offers night skiing, some slopes are illuminated till 24:00.
There are 8 ski huts spread over the ski area which are very well visited especially at lunchtime, also due to the numerous snow hikers in the area.
Merano 2000 is one of the 15 South Tyrol resorts that have joined together under the Ortler Superski liftpass. This alliance of 15 ski areas is named for South Tyrol’s highest peak, Mount Ortler, and represents an attractive alternative to the gargantuan Dolomiti Superski area. Ortler Ski Arena offers 400 kilometres of slopes.
