Situated at 1850 m altitude, in the heart of the Hautes Alpes, Vars (villages: Les Claux, Sainte-Marie, Sainte-Catherine, Saint-Marcellin) has become one of the most popular ski resorts in the Alpes du Sud.
Next to the high mountains, situated in a preserved environment, it is nestled among splendid larch forests, with the surrounding summits (Massif des Ecrins, Massif de l'Ubaye and Massif du Queyras) and pistes at around 3000m. It forms, with Risoul, part of the Forêt Blanche domain. This domain includes around 180km of pistes. The modernisation of the ski lifts, the use of artificial snow, the organisation of events bringing young people together (World snowboarding champions, X-Games, etc.) have made Vars a vital site for snow sports fans.
