Veysonnaz ski resort - 4 Valleys ski area
The Veysonnaz ski area itself offers 55km of pisted slopes and is very popular with both skiers and snow boarders alike. The slopes are less busy than some of its neighbours and there is a large variety of beginner, intermediate and advanced skiing. Veysonnaz review would be complete without mentioning the thigh burning Piste de l’Ours. At a length of 2km and a gradient of 51%, it has hosted over 30 downhill world cup ski races.
Veysonnaz’s ski area is divided into two main sections; the Thyon-Veysonnaz sector and the ‘Four Valleys’ sector. The Thyon-Veysonnaz sector is directly accessible from the resort while the ‘Four Valleys’ sector is connected through a network of efficient ski lifts.
The eight-seater gondola in Veysonnaz is a key feature for accessing the vast 4 Vallées ski area. It connects the resort's base to an arrival station at an altitude of 2,121 meters, serving as a convenient and scenic gateway to some of the best slopes in the region. Starting next to the hotel and restaurant Le Magrappé, this gondola lifts skiers and snowboarders over charming mid-mountain chalets.
Although Veysonnaz is an undiscovered ski destination by most of the world, the Swiss have been training their World Cup racers here for decades. The Piste de L'Ours (starting from the top of the Veysonnaz gondola) is on the World Cup race circuit and a thrilling descent for skiers wishing to emulate Didier Cuche!
The huge 4 Valleys skiing area stretches from Veysonnaz and the adjacent Les Collons / Thyon 2000, taking in Nendaz and Mont Fort (3330 m), and extending as far as Verbier and La Tzoumaz, opening up no fewer than 410 km of slopes and 95 lifts for skiers of all abilities.
Veysonnaz village
Veysonnaz is a small, quaint village, complete with rustic luxury ski chalets, a charming church and a smattering of restaurants.
Veysonnaz is not a large resort and there is not a buzzing night life but in terms of lunches, suppers out and aprés ski, there is plenty going on if you want to find it. Directly on the piste above Veysonnaz is O Caboulis which offers lunch, après ski and dinner, with an extensive Valaisan menu as well as beautiful views and and a wonderful ambience. At the bottom of the piste is Le Magrappé, a lovely place to sit and people watch for a morning coffee before going up on the slopes. It also offers lunch, après ski and dinner. Bar Louca on the main street is a must for après ski and a lively atmosphere. If you want to go more upmarket then you will enjoy Le Greppon Blanc which has recently been renovated and has a beautiful terrace with panoramic views as well as high quality menu. For a wider choice of cuisine look no further than La Tanière which is right in the middle of Veysonnaz and is well reviewed and certainly has wonderful pizzas.
