A new black downhill run in the Jakobshorn ski area leads directly from “Usser Isch” to the centre of Davos Platz. The piste is reminiscent of the snow-covered forests of the American Rocky Mountains and promises an adventurous skiing experience with a depth of 1000 metres.
What began as an idea six years ago will become reality in the 2023/24 winter season: the new valley run on the Jakobshorn will enrich the popular ski area. Ski fans will conquer 1000 metres in altitude from the Jakobshorn mountain station via the valley station of the “Usser Isch” chairlift on a direct route to Davos Platz. This new piste experience is called “1k Vertical Jakobshorn”.
Safely on the move: downhill runs for every ability
This black run is a long-awaited addition. In the past, there were often bottlenecks on the existing Gämpen valley run. The new valley run offers experienced skiers and snowboarders an exciting alternative, while the existing Gämpen valley run remains available for less experienced winter sports enthusiasts. This extended range of slopes helps to minimize the risk of accidents. In addition, the new ski slope connects the Jakobshorn ski area with the popular practice area at Bolgen in the valley.
Ideal location that makes use of the existing infrastructure
The location of the new valley run under the Carjöler chairlift was carefully chosen to minimize environmental impact. With minimal intervention in the terrain, the new slope could be built. A new reservoir and a pumping station at Usser Isch also enable sustainable snowmaking on the valley run. At the end of a day's skiing, guests can use the new valley run to reach the centre of Davos Platz directly, where a variety of restaurants, hotels and entertainment options await them. In addition, there is a convenient connection to public transport with the Davos Platz railway station and the option of continuing the journey by car.
