Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis welcomes this year's winter guests on December 8 with new ski trails, more reliable snow and a large indoor playground.
A tale retold every year: Of all the peoples in the world, the Eskimos have the most words for snow. Not true, according to linguists. Because the German language, too, has quite an extensive snow vocabulary that any truly accomplished skier is familiar with, e.g. "Harsch" (crust), "Firn", "Sulz" (corn snow), "Neuschnee" (fresh snow), "Pappschnee" (packing snow) or "Pulverschnee" (powder snow). Each of these terms describes a particular state or shape of the crystalline water ice that falls from the sky onto skiers' paradises such as Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis in the Tyrolean Inn Valley, where from December 8 winter sports fans can finally indulge in endless snow adventures and expert chatter again.
In Tyrol's Ski Dimension Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis, this year's winter season begins on December 8, 2016, with the traditional Snow Festival that continues for several days. Snow aficionados can look forward to unbeatable skiing conditions because from 2016/17 on, more than 80 percent of the 214 perfectly groomed slopes will be equipped with snow cannons. With its new big reservoir Frommes II in Fiss, the resort can produce twice the amount of snow for even more glistening white pistes all the way up to almost 3,000 metres above sea-level. Plus there are two new red pistes (suitable for families), the Mittlere Scheid trail and the Plötza slope, that start at the Obere Scheid mountain terminal and lead towards the Masner area.
If thick drifts of snow spoil your skiing plans, the prize-winning family-friendly holiday resort in the Alps offers plenty of alternative activities. This winter, the skiing region Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis on the Tyrolean plateau is introducing PLAYIN, a huge indoor playground and climbing gym that will keep kids and teenagers busy for hours. PLAYIN features a laser game room, a soft-play area covering a whole of six floors, a big climbing hall with eleven different climbing walls, a bouldering zone reminiscent of a chemistry lab and an interactive play wall.
The Snow Festival from December 8 to 11, 2016, is the ideal winter warm-up, featuring opening parties with live music at the cable car valley and mountain terminals or the various mountain restaurants and umbrella bars.
