Dorfgastein ski resort is located at the entrance to the sunny valley of Gastein, and together with the other three villages - Sportgastein, Bad Hofgastein, Bad Gastein - forms a single ski region of the Gastein valley, where 220 km of tracks are available. Dorfgastein is part of the Ski Amadé network, one of Austria’s largest ski areas.
Dorfgastein ski resort - Gastein ski area
The skiing area of Dorfgastein ranges from an altitude of 885 metres near Großarl via Mount Kreuzkogel to an altitude of up to 2,027 metres. Both villages are linked through slopes. The approximately 80 kilometres of slopes are accessible via five cable cars, nine chair lifts and five drag lifts.
Gastein valley villages are connected by a single ski pass and free ski bus. In turn, Gastein, along with four other large regions, is a member of Austria’s largest alpine skiing association Ski Amadé (Gastein, Salzburg Sportwell, Schladming-Dachstein, Hokonig and Grossarltal ski resorts). From the village of Dorfgastein itself, you can take shuttle busses that take you to Bad Gastein or Bad Hofgastein. From there, you can access the skiing area of Skischaukel Schloßalm-Angertal-Stubnerkogel.
Dorfgastein itself is connected to Grossarltal, forming a combined ski area with about 70 kilometers of pistes.
Dorfgastein skiing
The slopes of the village are a variety of descents, both for the beginner and for the expert. The modern cable car gives a high level of comfort in a unique atmosphere and leads to the huts. Beautiful view from the top to the surrounding mountains.
The blue runs in Dorfgastein are wide and forgiving, making them ideal for new skiers to practice turns and build confidence.
Fulseck Lower Slopes: The lower part of the Fulseck mountain features a range of blue slopes, which are easily accessible by beginner-friendly lifts. These slopes provide gradual gradients and are perfect for mastering basic skiing techniques. The gentle descent from Fulseck Mittelstation (mid-station) to the base station offers a longer, scenic route for beginners to practice and enjoy their skiing.
The Mühlwinkel runs are perfect for children and families, with several ski schools operating in the area, providing beginner-friendly lessons.
Intermediate Skiers: The majority of the slopes in Dorfgastein are red (intermediate), with well-groomed pistes that offer a variety of gradients and lengths, making it ideal for intermediates. While most of the slopes coming down from Fulseck are red (intermediate), advanced skiers can find challenges in the steep pitches and the length of the descents.
Advanced Skiers: While there are fewer black runs, the black piste from Kreuzkogel offers a more challenging descent for expert skiers.
This is one of the most demanding runs in the Dorfgastein-Grossarltal ski area. It descends from the top of Kreuzkogel (2,027 meters) and offers a steep, fast descent that will challenge even advanced skiers.
Dorfgastein village
Dorfgastein has about 1,650 inhabitants and houses up to approximately 1,700 guests. The village is bursting with authentic charm and a lively buzz.
The après-ski scene in Dorfgastein is more laid-back compared to the livelier resorts like Bad Gastein. There are traditional mountain huts, cozy bars, and restaurants offering local cuisine, providing a relaxed atmosphere after a day on the slopes.
